Summary

Scripture Loom has no accounts, advertising, or tracking. Reading content and notebook entries are processed on your device and are not sent to us. Starting with version 1.0.2, the app sends a temporary presence signal for the live audience count on the Reader landing page and scriptureloom.com. The tally is on by default and can be turned off in Settings > Live Tally. Existing opt-outs are respected. Earlier public versions do not send this signal. Requests for websites, searches, and topic feeds go directly to their providers.

The live count

This is our one optional anonymous counter. Its server is reached at count.scriptureloom.com, a dedicated hostname on our existing hosting infrastructure. The app sends no page content or notebook entries to this service.

While the tally is on, the app sends a signal when it enters the foreground and about every two minutes while active. It also attempts to send a closing signal when it leaves the foreground or you turn the tally off; iOS may prevent delivery.
The signal contains a random ID and whether the app is open or closing. The ID is created fresh each time the app launches, is kept only in the app’s memory, and is not tied to an account or persistent device identifier. We do not try to identify you or connect separate launches.
The signal never includes what you read, the websites or searches you use, your notes or highlights, your settings, your location, or any device or advertising identifier.
The server holds each ID, its last-signal time, and a keyed network-address value in memory. A closing signal removes the record; otherwise it expires after five minutes without a signal. A cleanup runs every 30 seconds. These records are not written to disk or request logs.
Like any internet request, the signal reaches the server from your network address. The raw address is not stored. The server derives a keyed value using a secret that exists only for the running process. That value is retained with the temporary records only to limit one network to 50 IDs; it is not used to determine location or identify a device.
The aggregate count appears on the app’s Reader landing page and on the website to show its audience size and promote the app. The app and website badges appear at ten or more active sessions. This is an estimate of participating app sessions, not a count of unique people or proof that someone is reading. A website visit loads a snapshot of the count; it does not add you to it. The Reader landing page refreshes the public count while visible. Viewing this number sends no presence ID or reading content and does not turn participation on. The count stays out of chapters and articles and is hidden if unavailable.
The live count is on by default. To stop it, open Settings and turn off Count Me in the Heathen Tally under Live Tally. You can turn it off at any time without affecting any reading features.

What the app does with web pages

When you open a website, the app loads it directly from that website inside the built-in browser and changes only how the page is presented, on your device.
Page content is not uploaded to Scripture Loom or to anyone else. The app does not proxy, cache, analyze, or redistribute web pages.
The app does not keep a browsing history or record which web pages you open.
The built-in browser uses the system's on-device website data store so ordinary website sessions work. Scripture Loom does not read, store, or transmit your credentials.
Web searches go directly to the provider you choose in Settings. Websites and search providers have their own privacy practices.
The app does not bypass paywalls, logins, access controls, or DRM.

What is stored on your device

Your reading preferences, including theme, text size, line spacing, Quiet Header, and search provider.
The websites you add under Manage Sites and the order you give them.
The last scripture chapter you read, so the Library can offer to continue. No web page is ever recorded.

These settings remain in the app's private container on your device and are removed when you delete the app.

Scripture and topic content

The scripture library is bundled with the app. Reading it makes no network request.
The Topics tab requests selected article feeds directly from Global Voices. Text is formatted on your device; images, audio, and video are not loaded.

Children

Because the app can open any website, it carries the highest applicable App Store age rating and is not directed at children.

Changes

If a future version adds a feature that collects or transmits data, this policy, the app's privacy manifest, and the App Store privacy label will be updated before release.
